This fascinating city has long been at the top of my bucket list. This month I finally managed to experience Marrakech and its exciting life for myself, even if only for a few days. In this blog post I would like to show you some of the collected impressions and my absolute favorite spots. From brightly colored spice and carpet markets to beautiful riads to millennia of old palaces, all this awaits you in this exciting city.
In the middle of the medina of Marrakech you will find everything your decorative heart desires. From wicker hats to bags, pillows and huge carpets. Here you’ll find the famous carpet shop, where the carpets hang over the house facades. From there you can walk in all directions through many small alleys and you will surely discover great things. But don’t get lost!
Another highlight in the streets of Marrakech are the thousand little fruit wagons. Especially popular there are the many strawberries, you can buy them at really every corner and possibly shoot one or the other picture. The locals are really always totally open, if you just ask them friendly, absolutely nothing speaks against a great fruit-stand picture. This is also true for all other shops in Marrakech, if you ask the owners friendly for a photo, they usually agree.
Of course, the many beautiful palaces in Marrakech are an absolute must. Here I can recommend the El Badi Palace to you. For me it was one of the most beautiful palaces in Marrakech, especially because there are hardly any tourists here. Today you can see huge remains of walls where storks build their nests. One has a great view of the medina from the terrace. A second beautiful palace is the Bahia-Palace. It is much more touristy, but has a great flair. The thousands of mosaic walls and decorated floors are really unique. Small courtyards with fountains and many plants make the place a paradisiacal oasis in the middle of the city.
My absolute favourite place were all the rooftops you can find in the medina. One of them is the Cafe Nomad. In the middle of the market place is this cool place where you can have a great meal, a delicious cold drink and enjoy the mega-view over the place.
Of course, Marrakesh is known for its many riads, of which there are so many by now, that one can’t even imagine being in the middle of the city anymore. you can decide where you want to go. For the overnight stay we decided for a small Riad in the quarter Kasbah the Riad Kasbah and that was also exactly correct. Great interior, with a pool, a super sweet room and a very tasty Moroccan breakfast. For lunch we were in one of the more famous riads, the BEMarrakech. It is famous for its beautiful interior, the two pools and the great rooftop where you feel like in 1001 nights. Between Moroccan cushions, cacti and delicious tajine we spent the whole afternoon here. A real must-see.
